One commonly-held definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result".

And, according to the American Heritage Dictionary, the word "conservative" means "tending to oppose change".

"Opposing change" means doing the same thing over and over. When that "same thing" is electing Republicans that claim they'll:

1. lower taxes
2. cut spending and
3. reduce the size of the government

(and these things have never happened, Reagan and Bush I raised taxes 4 times between themselves, submitted budgets to Congress 10 of 12 times that were sent back to them reduced, and expanded the size of the government by 14%), it means that they expect a different result from Bush II.

In 2002, the government is not smaller, the budgets have busted out the surplus leading to 165 Billion in deficits and the states and cities will be raising taxes soon to cover the difference, likely to the tune of 100 billion dollars, according to economist JK Galbraith.

Where there are deficits, there are either tax increases (hidden in fees or "revenue enhancements") or outright tax hikes or a cut in spending, something no Republican President has ever asked for with any real zeal, or for that matter, at all.

Therefore, conservatives do the same thing over and over again, yet expect different results - which is defined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (the second best selling book of the last 70 years) as insanity.
