The Slow Reveal

The Slow Reveal

By: Michael Hayduke

It is popular to portray the President of the United States, George W. Bush, as a buffoon, the village idiot, a bumbler, an inept public speaker, the puppet pulled to hidden strings. The "Aw Shucks", Mad Magazine poster child image of the President Select suggests that an inept son of a former President was trotted out to continue the Bush Dynasty.

This is a dangerous line of thought, however. We must always remember that the central ruling elite learned some time ago that image is reality, and they learned how to manipulate imagery to their benefit.

Bush's bumbling image falls apart when it is analyzed in terms of what he says and how he says it. At least one author has pointed out that Dubya is entirely articulate when talking about capital punishment, invading Iraq, and cutting taxes. It's only when it comes to self-criticism, or social support programs that his lexicon lapses into faux Texas "Bushisms".

In reality, George W. Bush is a carefully crafted image put before the world for a purpose, an amusing pair of funny nose-and-glasses to cover over the dark, slimy world of Cheney, Ashcroft, and company, the world of smoke-filled conference rooms, back-alley deals, and under-the-table bribes that really controls the course of the United States government.

The proposed and impending invasion of Iraq has two purposes:

  1. to gain control of Middle eastern oil for U.S. corporations - The Promise, and
  2. by its timing, to obscure domestic policies to enhance and entrench overriding powers of the Office of the President and the federal government over the people of the United States - The Pay-Off.

What we are witnessing is a backroom deal between the United States government and industry, the military-industrial complex writ large, if you will, a cushy "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" deal, to once and for all consolidate corporate imperialist control of the world oil economy in the hands of trans-national energy corporations, military arms manufacturers, and global communications networks. The United States government has been transformed from the protector of the rights of the people of the United States, to the chief promoter and defender of international capitalism, private profit, and imperialist expansion.

There is a word for this, a word that is unfashionable these days, but nonetheless appropriate and descriptive of the present situation. The word is fascism.

The democratic ideals of the United States of America have been sold to the highest bidder. The United States government has been reduced to the cheerleading team for international capital, its military issued with dark suits and white ties with spaghetti stains, the protection racket for the imperialist family oil cartel. The CIA and NSA have been reduced to front men for U.S. invasion and overthrow of legitimate governments, its military assigned the task of burly goons applying pressure on countries less than compliant to U.S. corporate interests.

It is immaterial whether or not agents of the United States had any foreknowledge or participation in the events of September 11, 2001; the outcome is the same. The United States government has used this tragedy as an excuse to launch a preplanned program of world political and economic domination, creating an empire never before seen in the history of western civilization. Even worse, the United States government has used the September 11, 2001 tragedy as a feeble excuse to undermine constitutionally guaranteed right of U.S. citizens, and to quash popular opposition to U.S. overtures for war against Iraq.

We face a major challenge to the United States Constitution and the very basis for the democratic ideals of liberty and justice that have distinguished the United States from all other countries in the world. We are witnessing a regime change in the United States, from a representative republic based on liberty and justice for all, citizens and resident aliens, to an oppressive, fascist corporate oligarchy that protects the elite privileges of corporate interests at the price of the well-being of its citizens.

It is time to call a stop to this inevitable slide to totalitarianism.

It is time for the citizens of the United States of America to stand up and take back control of the United States government from corporate and private influence.
